The Area

Moortown House is set in beautiful grounds which were designed by the eminent Sir Joseph Paxton. Paxton designed the historic parkland in front of the house plus the woodland and lake to the west, all of which make for fantastic unique strolls and views of the Lincs Wolds AONB in the background. For longer walks, the working farm is dissected by an ancient Roman path which leads to the Viking Way in one direction and to a local pub in the other.

Wolds

The Lincolnshire Wolds AONB is on our doorstep. It comprises rolling hills of farmland and beautiful hidden valleys interspersed with charming villages and historic market towns, such as Louth & Horncastle. Louth, described as a “food Mecca” by the “Hairy Bikers”, so well worth a visit. Horncastle, is a ‘must’ for antique enthusiasts with over 20 antique shops to be found in the town have a plethora of independent shops and eateries.

Coast

The coast is within easy reach of Moortown. The rural beaches are vast, such as Anderby Creek and Moggs Eye, with adjoining sand dunes. Ideal for those looking for serenity and observing nature, or for dogs to run free. The seaside towns such as Cleethorpes are about family fun, arcades, piers and of course fish’n’chips.

On a larger scale, Skegness & Ingoldmells Fantasy Island have a funfare atmosphere with many rides and sizeable rollercoasters.

Lincoln

Lincoln has fascinating historical architecture, which is crowned by the Cathedral, formerly the World’s tallest building. Lincoln (Lindum) was a key city in Roman Britain. Nowadays it has an increasing modern vibrancy with cool diverse restaurants and the stylish Brayford Marina strip of eateries.  Plus there are many independent boutique shops & galleries to peruse in the Bailgate area. Frequent music and food events are held in the atmospheric Castle grounds.

Activities

From Rope Walks to Skydiving, from Farm Parks to Horse Racing, there is a diverse mix of activities to be experienced in this part of Lincolnshire.
